Crafted in 1938 by Charlotte Perriand for her atelier in the eponymous Parisian district, Table Montparnasse is part of the famous «en forme libre» series of tables, designed to make the most of any space. Thanks to its distinctive asymmetric shape composed of six sides, it is a unique model in the history of design that revolutionises the idea itself of the table, traditionally imagined in simple geometric shapes. Despite resting on just three legs, the structure is extremely stable. It is characterised by an emblematic top designed by Perriand with dual purposes: on one hand, to create an object suitable for compact spaces, on the other, to comfortably accommodate a greater number of guests. Cassina reveals this table, only seven exemplars of which were created during the 1940s and ‘50s, and introduces it in two types of wood with matt finish: natural Canaletto walnut and ash stained black.
